Resize the window keep image from being cut

How could I set the image to always have a width of 100%, but set the height to whatever the proportions of the image demand. The idea is that when resizing the browser window, the image would not get cut when making the window small, and white space would not appear when making it very large. With a simple image you would do this by setting width:100% height:auto. Is there a way to achieve this effect with this slider? I have found that setting height to auto in various locations makes the slider disappear entirely.
