use tooltip as selector

I wanted to place an icon following a selector with dropdownlist. is it possible to use the tooltip attached to the icon to contain the picture items corresponding to the items in the dropdown list? so user can either select from the dropdownlist or from the array of pictures in the tooltip.

I am not sure. I think you can make a hidden element containing a 2nd copy of those pictures, and then your tooltip can use it as the content resource.
